Know the responsibilities
Our responsibility
We own and regularly inspect the gas lines up to and including the gas meter. We replace aging gas lines and work to modernize our system each year.
Your responsibility
You own and should regularly inspect the gas lines from your meter to your gas appliances. Any lines that are buried outside and are not regularly inspected and maintained could be affected by corrosion and leaks, and subject to dig-in by excavation. These buried customer-owned natural gas lines could serve pool heaters, generators or other outdoor appliances. Be sure that you’re aware of these lines and their locations.
For your safety, have the location of your outside gas lines from your meter to your natural gas appliances marked before any excavation on your property. Also, have those lines inspected periodically for leaks and corrosion by a qualified professional. To keep your natural gas appliances operating safely and efficiently, you should schedule inspections on a regular basis. If your qualified professional finds an unsafe condition, it should be repaired immediately or natural gas service should be shut off until the repair is made and a safety inspection is completed.
